So I’ve noticed that most doctors won’t prescribe you certain medications while on suboxone. It’s understandable for certain medications if they have abuse potential especially early on. I’m confused about these combinations and why one combo seems to be okay but the other isn’t? I’ve seen doctors put people on Z-drugs (Ambien, Lunesta, ect) with no problem but I’ve noticed most doctors refuse to have suboxone patients take any kind of benzo. Like I said before the abuse potential is obvious and I know doctors can be held responsible to a degree for OD’s or health problems, but it got me thinking; don’t they both effect the GABA part of the brain almost the same? Besides that I believe they both effect the CNS as well. From what I’ve gathered it seems like Hypnotics and Benzos are almost the same, same withdrawal, same receptor(s), and there’s even a cross tolerance. It seems contradictory to say one is okay but the other isn’t when it’s so closely related. So why will they prescribe one but not the other? Is it just the abuse potential?
