I wanted to hear other peoples experiences with coming off Suboxone. Iāve been in recovery for about 6 years now and Iāve been on Suboxone this whole time. Iāve done a lot in these past six years and while I canāt give all the credit to this medicine, it definitely has helped me a lot. I take 8mg twice a day. (specifically Subutex so no Naloxone) My original doctor said he typically keeps patients that were serve on subs for five years. Well he retired and I got a new doctor thatās also amazing, I might even say I like him more. My new doc told me that I can come off it whenever Iām ready to do so. He made it very clear thereās no rush which I appreciate. Iām not sure when Iāll take the leap but I wonāt lie Iām kind of terrified. Itās always a thought that looms in the back of my mind. āYou gotta do it eventuallyā What worries me more is I feel like it helps with more than just cravings, like anxiety, my overall mood, and motivation. I was thinking about slowly moving the dose down and letting him know as I go. Like going to 4mg at night instead of 8mg for a few months, then 4mg in the morning instead of 8mg and so on and so forth every few months until Iām down to the minimal dose. I believe when I get to the end dosages heāll have me take it every few days then to nothing at all. I know Iāll probably still get sick but Iām hoping this minimizes the physical withdrawals, but I know I canāt escape the mental withdrawals. Sorry this is so long but yeah I just wanted to hear other peoples stories of tapering off suboxone. Like how long were you on it? How did your tapering go? What were the physical and mental withdrawals like? Stuff like that, I know six years is pretty deep so any experience/advice is appreciated!
