How was coming off Suboxone? What should I expect?
Post Body

I wanted to hear other peoples experiences with coming off Suboxone. Iā€™ve been in recovery for about 6 years now and Iā€™ve been on Suboxone this whole time. Iā€™ve done a lot in these past six years and while I canā€™t give all the credit to this medicine, it definitely has helped me a lot. I take 8mg twice a day. (specifically Subutex so no Naloxone) My original doctor said he typically keeps patients that were serve on subs for five years. Well he retired and I got a new doctor thatā€™s also amazing, I might even say I like him more. My new doc told me that I can come off it whenever Iā€™m ready to do so. He made it very clear thereā€™s no rush which I appreciate. Iā€™m not sure when Iā€™ll take the leap but I wonā€™t lie Iā€™m kind of terrified. Itā€™s always a thought that looms in the back of my mind. ā€œYou gotta do it eventuallyā€ What worries me more is I feel like it helps with more than just cravings, like anxiety, my overall mood, and motivation. I was thinking about slowly moving the dose down and letting him know as I go. Like going to 4mg at night instead of 8mg for a few months, then 4mg in the morning instead of 8mg and so on and so forth every few months until Iā€™m down to the minimal dose. I believe when I get to the end dosages heā€™ll have me take it every few days then to nothing at all. I know Iā€™ll probably still get sick but Iā€™m hoping this minimizes the physical withdrawals, but I know I canā€™t escape the mental withdrawals. Sorry this is so long but yeah I just wanted to hear other peoples stories of tapering off suboxone. Like how long were you on it? How did your tapering go? What were the physical and mental withdrawals like? Stuff like that, I know six years is pretty deep so any experience/advice is appreciated!
