So when I closed down Subnautica the other day (after saving) i bluescreened for no apparent reason. The next day when I started the game, my main save file was corrupt and i couldnt load it. Here's what I did to fix it and restore the save to playable without issues:
First, I located the saved games folder. I run subnautica through epic games, so my saved games folder was under
C:\users\me\AppData\LocalLow\Unknown Worlds\Subnautica\Subnautica\SavedGames
If you don't know which save you're looking for, check date modified, folder size and the number of the save file (e.g slot0004).
I copied the folder of the corrupt save to my desktop just to have it backed up. Next I went back into subnautica, started a new game with the same gamemode of the original save, saved the game as soon as I was in the lifepod, and closed the game down.
Next step is to:
Find the new game folder that you just created.
Replace EVERY FILE except the CellsCache folder with the old files from your corrupt save.
Now reopen subnautica and look for the save. If its STILL listed as corrupt, try opening it anyway. If this WORKS make sure to save the game instantly so you wont lose it again.
Now after doing this I had some issues with the game. When I went to the floating island there was nothing on the island; no trees, no plants and no bases. The simple solution I did to solve this was to delete every file in the "CellsCache" folder in my save game folder and just restart the game.
These solutions are pretty basic and simple, but I really hope it helps someone out.
