Usually when you have built a relation with your mechanic you get a good sense of trust respect and professionalism. Well that can change instantly when you get a bad quote from them! So a few months ago I had taken my 3.6 outback to my suby mechanic for a professional look over. We passed a milestone(180k) and it is always good to have a professional inspection when one does not possess a lift! So long story short they look her over and tell me so many things are wrong/need to be done with her. The seals are worn out, oil is dumping from the front, sides etc. Then they tell me a full engine reseal is going to be required. And a few weeks go by before they actually send me a quote. At first I took them at face value. I'm saving for the time just to get the funds together. But once I got the quote alarms are going off in my head. And I start talking to some friends. Catching them up on my suby issues. One of my buddies looks over this quote and is mindblown. He can't fathom most of the work being suggested. And offers me some solid advice on what I should do while waiting and get a 2nd opinion 🤣 2 weeks ago i have her at another respected suby shop(never a dealer) and the guy has it a couple hours and gets back to me. I have a minor valve cover gasket leak. That's it. Nothing else. And I'm scratching my head in disbelief as to why my mechanic would be this shady. Well now at 200k mi she has no leaks, strong as ever and I'm 5k richer!
