I've been wanting to get into Monotype for a while. Now that Gen 7 is here, I decided to finally make a team. I knew I wanted to use Z-Memento Pyukumuku and Mega Gyarados. I figured I'd set up hazards, spread status, break any walls, and let Gyarados sweep. Maybe it's odd not to use Rain on a mono-water team, but whatever. Here's the team so far:
Swept Out to Sea (Carracosta) @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Solid Rock
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Relaxed Nature
- Stealth Rock
- Aqua Jet
- Scald
- Stone Edge
I'm using Carracosta as my Rocks lead. People expect a Shell Smash set, but I'm sticking with defensive. It can handle lots of physical attackers (except grass types), set up rocks, and potentially snipe kills with Stone Edge and Aqua Jet. Scald is here to spread burns. I could potentially swap Solid Rock for Sturdy just to guarantee a safe Stealth Rock.
This isn't 1v1 (Gyarados) @ Gyaradosite
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 152 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 100 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Dragon Dance
- Waterfall
- Crunch
- Earthquake
The main sweeper. He can come in at any point to Intimidate physical mons and deal damage when nessesary - Pyukumuku can full heal him before he DDs and sweeps late game. Outspeeds Garchomp at 1, max Atk Adamant, and the rest of the points are dumped into HP.
Sex Cucumber (Pyukumuku) @ Darkinium Z
Ability: Innards Out
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
Bold Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Toxic
- Recover
- Baton Pass
- Memento
My favorite new pokemon! Toxic might be redundant (Tentacruel has TSpikes), and I could swap it out for Counter. It's physically defensive with Baton Pass to bring in other pokemon safely. Recover heals off damage. Z-Memento drops the opponent's offensive stats and fully heals the next pokemon I bring in. In a pinch, Pyukumuku acts as a counter for fast electric types. If it goes down to a Tbolt from full health, it's dragging something down with it. Even if it leaves something at very low HP, the team has priority to finish off threats.
I Choice You (Azumarill) @ Choice Band
Ability: Sap Sipper
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def / 84 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Aqua Jet
- Play Rough
- Knock Off
- Superpower
I know I need something to eat Grass moves, so I figured I'd give Sipper Azu a try. It walls both charizards and hits decently hard if it gets 1. I could potentially switch it off an offensive banded varient to a defensive Scald set. 84 spe lets you outspeed uninvested Clefable. Not sure about this mon, advice appreciated.
It's a Cruel World (Tentacruel) @ Black Sludge
Ability: Liquid Ooze
EVs: 240 HP / 40 SpA / 228 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Rapid Spin
- Scald
- Toxic Spikes
- Sludge Bomb
Tentacruel is my secondary grass check. It takes neutral damage from Grass moves, and Giga Drain and Leech Seed deal damage to the user thanks to Liquid Ooze. Tentacruel is my special defense, and it can Spin away hazards, set up it's own Toxic Spikes, burn things with Scald, and hit with STAB Sludge Bomb. I could potentially swap that out for Acid Spray or haze, like Smogon recommends.
The Don (Gastrodon-East) @ Leftovers
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 112 Def / 144 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Curse
- Scald
- Earthquake
- Recover
Gastrodon is here as my Electric immunity, mixed wall, and secondary win-con. If I lose Gyarados, I generally have to rely on a Curse setup to win. I am using Scald over Waterfall since it's more of a utility pokemon than a setup mon. Recover is self-explanatory.
All input is appreciated! I've never really played this tier, so I might have made some mistakes building this. Am I stacking too many statuses? Should I replace my Azu set? Do I need to use Rain? Thanks for any and all advice.
