Ok, so maybe not 1000, but Liepard is an extremely versatile Pokemon thanks to the usefulness in each of its abilities, most notably Prankster. There are actually 10 sets that Liepard can reliably run depending on what roles you need in your team. As such, I'll have to make this a three part analysis in order to fit each set in. So let's begin!
Set 1: Physical Snatch Cat
Liepard @ Scope Lens
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Attack, 4 HP
Encore
Snatch
Night Slash
Play Rough/U-Turn/Seed Bomb
One of Liepards most useful sets, Encore and Snatch provide and easy way to either lock an opponent into a non-damaging move and chip away at them, or set up a sweep using your opponents set-up. The Scope Lens, in conjunction with Night Slash, gives you an astounding 50% chance to critically hit, which can lead to some easy OHKOs as you'll see in a bit. As an example, Weakness Policy Dragonite with Dragon Dance is somewhat common in OU play. If Liepard is switched in and begins Snatching up those Dances, you can become quite the power house in no time at all. Even better, once locked into Dragon Dance, you can activate the Weakness Policy on Dragonite! As counter-intuitive as that may seem, it actually comes at a great benefit to you. Since Dragonite is locked into Dragon Dance, the activated Weakness Policy will boost stats he'll never be able to use, wasting the Policy if your opponent decides to switch out at some point! Just be wary of Extreme Speed, as its priority of two will out speed you. Other common OU pokemon that Liepard can snatch from include Azumarill's Belly Drum, Garchomps's Sword Dance, Aegislash's Sword Dance, and Charizard-X's Dragon Dance. Now let's look at some damage calculations after just one round of Snatches.
2 252 Atk Liepard Play Rough vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Multiscale Dragonite: 157-185 (48.4 - 57%) -- 91.8% chance to 2HKO
6 252 Atk Liepard Seed Bomb vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Azumarill: 644-758 (159.4 - 187.6%) -- guaranteed OHKO
4 252 Atk Liepard Play Rough vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Garchomp: 470-554 (131.2 - 154.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
4 252 Atk Liepard Night Slash vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Aegislash-Shield: 372-438 (114.8 - 135.1%) -- guaranteed OHKO
4 252 Atk Liepard Night Slash vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Aegislash-Shield: 312-368 (96.2 - 113.5%) -- 81.3% chance to OHKO
2 252 Atk Liepard Play Rough vs. 4 HP / 0 Def Mega Charizard X: 138-163 (46.3 - 54.6%) -- 60.5% chance to 2HKO
The best part? Liepard has a base speed of 106. That means, unless one of these pokemon is using a scarf (which would be silly on a set-up set anyway), you will always outspeed them! Granted, you can always just lock them up with another Encore round as well. Those damage calculations show just how powerful Liepard can be as a counter to any opponent attempting a set-up strategy. It will usually turn Liepard right into a sweeping machine.
Set 2: Special Snatch Cat
Liepard @ White Herb/Life Orb
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Timid
EVs: 252 Speed, 252 Special Attack, 4 HP
Encore
Snatch
Dark Pulse
Grass Knot/ HyperVoice
This set runs basically the same as the physical set but geared towards a few different Pokemon, namely Cloyster and Gardevoir. When countering Gardevoir, she'll likely set up with Calm Mind, giving you a boost to both your Special Attack and Special Defense. As for Cloyster, this is where the White Herb comes in handy. There's no doubt Cloyster will be using Shell Smash. Lock them in with Encore and start using it for yourself! Not even a priority attack from Cloyster will outspeed you after a round of Snatching. This means you're free to keep locking them in with Encore and easily defeat Cloyster or force them to switch and attempt to set up again. And now for the Damage Clacs.
4 252 SpA Liepard Grass Knot (100 BP) vs. -2 4 HP / 252 SpD Cloyster: 1256-1478 (519 - 610.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
2 252 SpA Liepard Dark Pulse vs. 2 4 HP / 252 SpD Mega Gardevoir: 66-78 (23.7 - 28%) -- 82.9% chance to 4HKO
As you can see, not as impressive as the Physical set, but if you need a counter to Cloyster, it doesn't get much better than Liepard.
Set 3: Stall Cat
Liepard @ Lum Berry/Leftovers
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Calm/Careful
EVs: 252 Speed, 128 HP, 64 Defense, 64 Special Defense
Encore
Toxic
Protect
Substitute/Knock Off
A stall set on Liepard? That's right! Thanks to Encore, even Liepard's awful defense can be a good stall! Just lock your opponent into any non damaging move and let that Toxic eat away at them. Substitute can be used to add an extra layer of protection for Liepard while Knock Off can help get rid of those pesky Leftovers and keep you from being complete Taunt bait. Lum Berry helps get rid of your own status problems while Leftovers gives you some reliable recovery.
Well that's it for part 1! Parts 2 and 3 should be out later today and early tomorrow. I'll also keep part 1 linked at the top of part 2 and parts 1 and 2 at the top of 3 for easy navigation of the sets.
