Post Body

I posted this in r/legaladvice, someone suggested I post here as well. Here

I took the advice from that post and told the social worker there was no one who could pick him up, he needs more care than any of us can provide him right now.

My son is his POA and his next of kin and only family (everyone else is deceased or we haven't been in contact with in over 30 years).

I have been advised to sign up for SSI for him, which we know takes awhile.

The social worker at the hospital said since my ex owns the trailer and land he's on (worth less than $30,000) that disqualifies him from getting Medicaid.

Today the social worker called my son to tell her she can't find him a placement and we need to figure it out ourselves which is stressing my son out.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Here's the highlights about my ex

Ex is 47 years old, accident happened Friday Mar 12. He'd been out of work for over six months due to Covid. He's been a truck driver for a most of his adult life and had just started driving truck again when the stroke happened. (thankfully he was in a parking lot and rolled into parked cars when he passed out - no one was hurt).

Since he'd only been working for a couple of weeks before this happened company insurance hadn't kicked in and he doesn't qualify for worker's comp since the job didn't cause the stroke.

Ex is confused, thinks he's staying at a hotel while his truck gets fixed half the time rather than the hospital.

He can go to the bathroom on his own but refuses to do so at random times and just messes all over himself. They put him in a diaper due to that.

He can walk with a walker but often bangs into things.

The hospital said he needs 24/7 care right now.

We would be fine to take him if he could be unsupervised for a few hours at a time so we could continue to work but we can't just stay home 24/7, not to mention we are not skilled to take care of him.
