UPDATE - Well, we are both back home! We came back to our rural home on December 16th. Mom was determined to spend Christmas at home. Her discharge date was supposed to be January 12th, but her team gave us the go ahead to come home, but with restrictions and stipulations for checking in. All good.
She's still improving, she's doing well. At first she was a little lost, she didn't feel much purpose. She tried to push herself too hard to be "back". She knows to take it easy. My oldest brother came home last week for a night and a day and helped out with a few things that needed fixing, etc. This took a lot of stress off of Mom and so she had a few days of "crash" resting.
I helped find her a driver for her upcoming appointments and errands. We are also making plans to move down to the city together where we both have supports and my oldest brother will be close by to help us or jump in if something happens again. Moving will likely be in the next 6 months to a year. We are excited but nervous. I want to be able to build up a reliable care team for myself and not have it solely on Mom's shoulders. She's always been my carer, so she likely won't want to drop completely, but it will be nice for her to be able to take off for a week or weekend visit here and there and not worry about me.
Her next scan/MRI is scheduled for around April, and I believe her Occupational Therapist/Doctor will need to sign off on her to have her medical suspension lifted from her drivers license. She's very eager to get that back hahaha. She is going to start looking for transfer opportunities with work. She's not even on her long term disability yet and she's already planning when she can return to work hahaha. This woman is a BOSS...
A lot of relieved friends and family, seeing Mom back to herself, and her and I joking around again.
Thank you to this sub for helping me with this whole ordeal. It means so much. Whatever you or your loved ones are going through right now, I wish the absolute best for you!
