You need 2 things to dance in Las Vegas as of October 2022:

  1. Sheriff's Card (aka Work Card)
  2. Business License

Your sheriff's card(s) come first. You'll have to get a sheriff's card referral from a club before you can do a full club audition or apply for the card! Clubs don't like to just hand out the referral if they don't think you'll be back to work there. Knowing someone who already works in Vegas (dancer/manager) makes this process really quick.

Something nobody told me until it was too late: there are THREE different sheriff's cards! The clubs out here either require a City, County, or North Las Vegas sheriff's card. You can call to ask which one a club requires. When you go in to apply for the sheriff's card(s), you will be charged the same price ($90) whether you have one or all 3 referrals. If you get them separately, you'll have to pay each time.

Going in to apply for the work card(s) is simple but may take a long wait time. If you go onto the LVMPD website ahead of time, you can set an appointment. I got an appointment for the next day and it only took an hour in the building to complete the whole process. I've heard of non-appointment wait times being 4-6 hours. They will have you show your documentation: ID, SSN, Birth Certificate(required under 25), work visa, and/or naturalization card. Then you'll pay and have you go back to wait again. A short time later, you'll do the photo and fingerprinting process. If you have long nails, they will make you cut them off for the fingerprinting. They'll hand you a temporary sheriff's card. It will last for 3 months then you'll come back within a week of the expiration date to get the permanent one. If you don't return before the expiration or lose the temporary card, you WILL have to do this whole process and pay again. The work card(s) are good for 5 years.

Once you have your work card(s), you can go start auditioning! The club you received a referral from will be listed on your temporary work card. A club you're auditioning at, apart from the listed club, may question you about it. Some clubs would rather you audition during day shift (10am-5pm) and some would rather night shift (7pm and later). Call ahead to know. Vegas clubs are known for being really picky. Look at a club's social media to get a good idea of their "favorite type" but don't limit yourself. The most important aspect is confidence. The auditions will usually go very quickly and you may not even be allowed to dance. Just remember to make eye contact, smile, hold your shoulders back, and pose like you're in a bikini competition.

If you're hired, you'll be told what shift you're allowed to work. Some clubs are 24/7 and some close by 5/6am. If a club really likes you, you'll be allowed to clock in at whatever time you want to. Nevada work laws just make sure we don't work longer than 12 hours.

Once you're hired, the club will give you a certain amount of time (1 or 2 weeks) to get your Nevada Business License. It's super simple to get. Just pay for it ($200) online and you'll receive a digital certificate. Then you can just email it to your club. The business license lasts 1 year.
