is asking for tips technically prostitution?

so many girls and clubs have said this to me but I think it’s a lie. I looked it up and everything I read says it’s NOT prostitution to ask for tips, or even specific $ amount numbers of what tip you want. I think it’s only illegal when you say “I’ll do (insert sexual activity) for $x amount” but other than that it is legal to ask for tips and give specific amounts. I think clubs try to lie to us about asking for tips because they don’t want to bother the customers. That’s just a theory though. Does anyone know the actual legalities behind tip asks as strippers? If you have any insight on this please comment!
