ummmm? maybe this is a little awkward, but fuck it, we’re all adults here…
do you do your normal pole and floor routines, when it’s that time of the month, as in, do you show out, and try to conceal the fact that you’re literally bleeding lol?
or do you take it easy/modify?
Speaking for myself personally, I like to do a lot of acrobatics on the stage & on the pole (full splits, backbends, headstands, legs behind head, inversions, fairy spins, etc…), so it really sucks when it’s my time of the month and it kind of forces me to “slow down.” It feels limiting, because you feel more self-conscious. Not only dancing; but even just sitting in those couches and chairs in a section, wearing tight, revealing clothing, is not ideal.
I’m a pads girl, so wearing tampons at work is soooo not my preference. But I have to, so I make it work. I wear pads at home or while driving, overnight, while working on the computer, etc. Especially on those “lazy days.” Athletic activity — such as stripping — obviously I have to use tampons in place of pads. LMFAO! 😅 Basically, I’m saying there’s a time and place for tampons vs. pads. I never tried cups; no idea how those work. But some girls do seem to function well with those. 🤷🏽♀️
When I was younger and I was newer to dancing I was on the depo shot (birth control), and as a side-effect of that, I was always bleeding. 0/10, do not recommend! It was a NIGHTMARE for me. Lol! 🙅🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️🩸🩸🩸🩸 💉
I know some girls completely avoid going in to work that whole entire week, that they’re menstruating…
and then I know some girls just work on the days towards the end of their cycle, when their period is light.
I guess if you have other side hustles, such as webcamming or 9-5/“day job,” you could take a break from the club and you could shift focus to those areas while your body sorts itself out…
I guess if you were having a hard time managing your symptoms, but you still really needed the money, out of financial need, so you were in a position where you had to go in to work — you could focus less on stage and focus more on working the floor/conversations…
I just want to know what other ladies do, since there are different ways to about it, or handle it, I guess.
If you’re an alcohol drinker: You should probably just avoid alcohol altogether during this time. Give your body a break. But, if you are going to drink — don’t overdo it. I actually recommend setting an alarm or a timer on your phone reminding you to switch your tampon out. This is very important for your hygiene and safety and wellbeing! We all know that the club can already be very disorienting, what with the swirly carpet and strobe lights and loud music and dark rooms, etc. Sometimes you even have stairs to climb. So, just be careful and listen to your body. Take care of yourself. Be aware of your surroundings. If the point of consuming alcohol is to dissociate, then, if you think about it, you don’t want to dissociate when it comes to the essential things — for example, forgetting that you have a tampon in, or neglecting your self care. I hope that makes sense…
I think it ultimately comes down to preference, and it depends on the individual when it relates to their personal health and their own personal needs.
I know some girls who are able to work on their period.
I know some girls who can’t.
And for me personally, some periods have been a lot worse than others. So I just kind of take it on a case-by-case thing.
Sometimes I allow myself to rest, during that time.
And sometimes I push past the discomfort and pain, and thug it out. And I let the potential to make money, motivate me.
I work in a fully nude club, but we’re not required to go fully nude EVERY TIME.
As long as you conceal the tampon (hide or cut the string, double check to make sure nothing’s showing), and/or keep your bottoms on, and freshen up throughout your shift, you should be fine and no one has to know.
Oh— and obviously, this should be common sense so I think it goes without saying, but: Avoid wearing light colors & white (bottoms). Dancewear and lingerie is pretty expensive; you probably don’t want your fave pieces getting stained.
At my club, most girls just wear thong bikinis. If you want more coverage, you could wear a box outfit, like a mini tube dress… a bodysuit (that covers the stomach… that basic rhinestone one is really popular…) or you could wear a wrap skirt/sarong. Some girls like to sit on something, such as a robe or a skirt or a scarf. Not just during their period, but in general.
You should be doing this regardless, but remember to always CARRY BABY WIPES!
Funny anecdote: I hate it when several ladies’ cycles sync up at work! So annoying, lol.
Last thing I want to say— If you’re working on your period — MAKE SURE YOU ASK for A LOT OF TIPS!! $$$$ You’re putting your body through a lot; you deserve to be compensated very well, for it.
Sorry, I’m grumpy as I’m writing this. Fuck bodies!
