I'm an Indian dancer and here's what I think:

• cultural attitudes: in my culture stripping = prostitution. Any kind of sex work is frowned upon and attitudes of what it means to be a good woman

• indian culture is very close-knitted and everyone knows each other. So word will spread fast and I'll deal with the stigma

• industry bias - there is a bias towards white women and eurocentric beauty standards. Ok now supposedly exotic features are in such as boots, big lips etc but it seems the ideal is a white girl with that

• racism - it's worse in this industry. It's hard to get hired. I also dealt with racist customers

• I work at a divey type of club that's more open. But the upscale clubs tend to be prejudiced and prefer whites.

In my club it's a hit or miss with customers. Everyone has their preferences and I'm doing reasonably well. But the 2 top earner are younger white girls.

I play up my background and worn Indian sarees over a bikini. My regular loves it but most guys don't seem to saree. So it's standard stripper wear.
