Photos lie. They trap light making it appear fixed and lasting. Itβs not. It bounces and fades like our memories. People leave us, or erase us, while the photo grips a moment that is less real than the transient nature it attempted to capture. I snapped this pic right after a couple got engaged. He happened to ask me to film the proposal on this phone. This is him rewatching the footage. I often wonder about their marriage. Did it last like the photo or was he erased and replaced? What follows is a re-editing of a few photos of couples playing with the notion of erasure. How people leave us in our lives and how the photos ultimately lie.
