Mic only puts out loud static when used

I am streaming through OBS and when I put in my headset (turtle beach recon 70x). Nothing comes through but overwhelming static noise. I had no idea how to fix this. My headset works perfectly while playing xbox. I am plugging it into the mic port on my computer and am not using a Y connector. Is this causing the problems? I am at a complete loss on what to do
