How important is it to define terms in your practice? (for instance awareness vs consciousness)

Post Body

I've experienced a bit of dissonance talking about what kensho means, differing opinions on the Maps of Insight vs xabir's model, etc. I generally avoid doctrinal or technical discourse unless absolutely necessary because I'm focused on results above all else - I don't want to get bogged down with words, which the mind then latches onto.

That being said, we do need to communicate. I'm intending on doing another day of full self-inquiry tomorrow, but I've also been wondering about how one defines awareness, Presence, consciousness, all that. For me, right now consiciousness (or "I") has become everything. I notice the mind arise, it's still chattering, but I know it is.

Presence seems to be what Eckhart Tolle is always talking about, the sense of being?

Not sure how to define awareness and attention in this context. I notice that things change when I direct my attention to them...which also impacts consciousness. I'm also not sure how this fits in with the concept of will (which I understand as being necessary at a certain stage of ego development. Will eventually surrenders to pure consciousness and the Higher Self)

I welcome any thoughts or insights.
