Sia is a blockchain-based decentralized cloud storage platform. It has been in development for nearly 2 years, culminating with the recent version 0.5.1 that features improved upload speeds, stability and a new user interface.
Sia is aimed to become an enterprise grade addition to existing cloud storage. Anyone can participate as a host on the Sia cloud storage network, and contribute spare storage. There is no central authority governing the Sia network. It is true peer-to-peer and decentralized. Uploads to the network are paid for with Siacoin, which is a currency similar to bitcoin. Files uploaded to the Sia network are encrypted and stored redundantly.
For more information, see: https://sia.tech and /r/Siacoin.
You can participate on the Sia network as an Uploader or Host (or both):
Hosts are computers that provide storage on the network. Hosts earn Siacoins, which are directly paid to the Host by Uploaders. Transactions are recorded publically on the Sia blockchain (see http://explore.siacoin.com). No collateral is required to participate as a Host.
Uploaders are computers that store content on the Sia network. The Sia network is suitable for backing up your computer, persistent storage and filesharing. Uploaders need Siacoins in order to upload files.
