Who has a substantially long record? Like, years

What are the secrets? Lot of talk about overall lifestyle benefits which are amazing but how do you not go back to something so familiar. I've quit for periods like many of us and while I'm smoking all I think is "I know I have to stop, but how am I gonna do this FOREVER?"
How did you find a long lasting, sustainable answer to that question?
