Seems a strange question, but stay with me. Let me provide some context first... I am a clinical hypnotherapist and it is very common for me to help people stop smoking. My success rate is exceedingly high and that starts with a simple question:
Why do you want to quit?
Why is that important? Simply put, because that one question makes or breaks your efforts. If someone says something along the lines of 'my partner is hassling me to' or 'I have to for work' or anything that indicates a purely external reason, I can't help. There isn't much at all I can do at that point except help someone find that reason.
The 'why' has to be your own. You want to quit for your health, so you can live a better life or so that you can achieve something. Your reasons, even if there are contributing reasons, must at the core be your own, for yourself. This is the first, vital step in the process of truly quitting for good.
As a professional who works with smoking cessation, hear me clearly: Don't give up. I have seen people quit who had literally thrown in the towel. People who smoked for decades living smoke-free for the first time in their life. Though I know it can be frustrating, don't give up. I see and help people overcome every single day; I know each and every one of you can do the thing.
Just do it for you.
