Hear me out: I've noticed I always crave alcohol the most on an empty stomach. I've been diagnosed with hypoglycemia in the past, and I remember reading somewhere that over 40% of alcoholics and addicts also have hypoglycemia.
So I have a theory, that a lot of people crave alcohol the most when they are experiencing low blood sugar. If I ignore the craving and eat some food in my stomach, my craving for alcohol seems to go away as soon as I get food in my stomach.
My neurologist told me that I should be eating low-carb, high-protein diets in order to keep my blood sugar stable. He said that if I eat high-carb or high-sugar diets, my blood sugar will crash fairly quickly, and I'll feel like garbage. Then my stomach feels empty, and this is seemingly when I crave alcohol the most. When I eat high-protein diets, it keeps me full for longer periods of time.
So I wonder if eating a high-protein or keto diet would help curb alcohol cravings. Is there anything to this theory? Would eating a high-protein, low-carb diet reduce oneβs cravings for alcohol?
