Hello all! I'm your substitute Shape Up Sunday host this week. This is a place to talk about your successes and frustrations with your wellness goals. It's a good place to set your intentions for the coming week.
If I had known I was going to host this week, I would have maybe exercised even a bit in preparation. That's a lie. There's nothing that could have motivated me to exercise this week. I had many opportunities to go for a quick run, take a short walk, or even just do a sit up. And instead I found an unending supply of excuses not to exercise.
And that's too bad. Because just about everything I was dealing with this week and using as an excuse would have been made easier if I had just gotten out and moved my body a bit. My anxiety, my stress about work, my frustrations with kids, my mild depression. All of that eases up when I get out and get my blood pumping.
In sobriety, I've gotten pretty saavy at catching my addict brain whispering addict thoughts in my ear and that helps keep me sober.
I'm still not so saavy at catching my lethargic brain whispering lethargic thoughts in my ear.
How do you stay motivated or, better yet, how do you respond to those excuses when they crop up?
What are your goals for the week? Want to brag about a recent Shape UP Successâ„¢? Need to talk through a disappointing Shape Up Snafuâ„¢? Or just how are you doing?
No matter how it's going, sometimes I need to remind myself that, hey, I'm sober today and that's already a pretty good start to a healthy day.
I set a goal on this thread a few weeks ago to practice yoga three times a week. Since the 5 weeks ago that I started posting on here, 4 out of the 5 weeks, I’ve achieved that goal. The one week I didn’t, we were on vacation and hiked a TON. I appreciate this Shape up Sunday thread and look forward to it every week. It helps me set intentions and I always practice yoga on Sundays to start the week off strong.
I’ve lost 14 lbs in two months with not a whole lot of other lifestyle changes except quitting drinking and introducing yoga about 3 weeks into my sobriety. I’m trying to eat more intuitively and not having alcohol in my system has definitely helped with that. Good luck to everyone today and this week with achieving your goals- and as u/soberingthought pointed out, sometimes being sober is healthy enough for now.
