Greek Mythology as an anecdote for alcoholism and addiction.
Post Body

So I've been watching the new Netflix show "Kaos" and it has led me into a deep dive of Greek mythology. This led me to an ancient Greek meme of hero worship called "katabasis", which was the basis of several ancient Greek religions. It means a journey to the underworld. Odysseus, Aeneus, Juno and even Heracles went there and returned. There are even earlier stories like Enkidu and Egyptian mythology. My point is that stories of people who have gone into the deepest darkness and then fought their way back from literal death is what I live every day. Maybe I didn't face down Cerberus, but I saw a beer and didn't drink it. We know how low the lows can get. We've lived in hell, we don't have to imagine it. Some of us have narrowly survived death, we know what it is. These heros are us, and reflect our struggle. A recovering alcoholic can relate more to a Greek God than the average person, and you should keep that in your pocket. IWNDWYT!
