Introduction and some observations on my 9th day without alcohol
Post Body

I'm a 55M and up until 9 days ago had been drinking every night for the past 25 years. I would usually have three strong drinks before dinner and maybe 1-2x a month go out with friends for beers. I would rarely get hungover but as my tolerance built up, I no longer had the good feeling buzz that used to come around when drinking.

Just a few personal observations so far:

  • It's been much easier than I thought - My house is well stocked with beer, booze, and wine and I haven't had any real cravings to have a drink.
  • My appetite is decreased - When drinking before dinner, I would often snack while drinking, but since quitting, I haven't felt the urge
  • I've lost 1 pound (2.2kg) 1.5 pounds (0.68kg)
  • Sleep was pretty bad the first few days but has been getting better

My original goal was to quit for a week and see how I feel but now I'm ready to give it another week and maybe a bit longer. I'm pretty sure I don't want to quit entirely but definitely want to give my body some time to heal and lower my tolerance levels once again
