For the past several years I've been trying to stop drinking intermittently, taking breaks for a few months at a time but then going back once I had "proven" that it wasn't an issue (haha). Each time I would have told you that I didn't get any better sleep sober than I did while drinking, but this last time has been different. After the first week of tossing and turning, I've been out every night like I'm in a coma. I sleep through my alarm and can't seem to get up before 8am. It feels like I've taken 5-10mg of melatonin but I haven't taken anything.
Is this part of recovery or could it be something else? It feels like maybe I'm paying off a huge sleep debt and my body is just soaking it up, but again this didn't happen when I quit in the past. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention?
