[DISCUSSION] Weekly PvP and other events

Post Body

Intro:

From now on, I'm going to make an effort to create discussion and recap threads for events that everyone can participate in. I will largely be following the format used in r/playdate, which is another great gaming community that all of you should check out.

Since we aren't cycling games every week like r/playdate, it doesn't make sense to have weekly voting and discussion threads; discussion will most likely happen only once every few weeks and the primary events will be the same each week based off of the discussion. I'll iron out these details but I would like to work with the fleet officers and Wa1k1k1 so that everyone has more responsibilities.

There will always be impromptu events like STFs, Federation/KDF Mirror, and the new Vault event, but I haven't come up with a good way to predict when these will occur, so they will mainly stay as "whoever's online will participate" events.

Please upvote this thread, for which I receive no karma, so everyone can see it.

Discussion:

As a part of this very first discussion thread, please provide ideas for what you guys want to happen every weekend. Please make an effort to stay on topic so that we can decide on what will be the most fun and inclusive for everyone, not just Rear/Vice Admirals. Here are a few ideas that have been brought up in the past:

  • Meta PvP: in-house Fed vs. Fed or Reddit Alert vs. House of Snoo PvP. This will be a lot of fun and will allow us to develop friendly rivalries with each other. It's also good practice since we can discuss strategy and ship setups during/after each PvP.

  • Restricted PvP: all players are restricted to a certain class of ships, such as Captain-level ships only, or shuttle only. This is probably the most inclusive type of PvP since lower level fleet members can participate.

  • Real PvP: fight against other people or fleets in formal PvP challenges (or just for practice if a tournament ever comes around). It's a good way to make friends with other fleets.

  • STF Races: Pitting two 5-man teams against each other for who can complete an STF (including the optional reward) the quickest. This is a great way to refine STF strategy which I've noticed that many people have misconceptions about. And, considering the most recent update, I think it's important for us as a fleet to refine our strategies.

  • Elite Episodes: I noticed that many of the story episodes, especially the later ones (like Assimilation, the one that gives you the Borg console) can be extremely fun on Elite difficulty with a group of 5 fleet members. This can also help some newbies in the fleet have some more fun doing the earlier story episodes with people instead of alone.

  • Community Authored Missions: someone has brought up the idea of playing community authored missions and creating a thread every week to sum up the best ones that everyone discovered.

If you have any further ideas, I would love to read and talk about them. Also feel free to use this thread for general feedback and Q&A.
