Trying to get back into STO

I stopped playing way back in the subscription days and recently after seeing it pop up on my Steam games list, I thought about restarting.

Oh dear Lord I am so lost. I had a commander, but I think my best bet is to sideline my old character and start anew.

I previously played an engineer and have no problem restarting, but I was wondering if anyone could pitch the Science career? Heck, maybe even tactical, I did love playing rogues in fantasy MMOs.

And I did see about the reddit fleet and I will be joining as soon as I get home.
