DMV testing in a manual car isn't worth it in the US. RANT
Post Body

Im going to be honest here, ive been driving hot for years in multiple manual cars so im no newbie but i just want to share this stupid experience i had recently when i went out my way to be a law abiding citizen lmao. I go through the test with the examiner (and a trainee in the back) and everything was smooth but i got hit with the tricky school zone speed limit. I accept that mistake but the thing that really annoyed me was that the examiner said i was shifting incorrectly. Now you may think i was all jerky and hopping the wheels but no. This ride was as smooth as it can get and that wasnt what the she pointed out. I kid you not she said i was shifting incorrectly and what she saw to determine that was me double clutching into 3rd gear (i was avoiding that infamous 3rd gear grind and wanted to shift as smoothly as possible). Now you may think again "oh she knows what shes talking about". Nope. She didn't even know what i was actually doing or what the double clutching was meant to do. She just thought that i was fucking around with the shifter or some shit as well as saying i didnt keep both hands on the steering wheel when i had to down shift at some occasions due to traffic... i stopped explaining further. That was enough for me to realize that this dmv is shit. Again I'm taking the L for the school zone mistake but the fact that a Driving examiner lacks knowledge on how manual vehicles are driven, is unable to identify my movements AND teaching trainees is baffling.

Even more Edits

  1. Context for those assuming i committed felonious speeding through some school. It was 15-17 in a 15 speed limit zone.
  2. The amount of people that are unaware about double clutching or the situations they can be used in is concerning. Its one thing to not know but some of yall are straight up denying. You definitely could use some extra learning.
  3. Some are assuming that i used a brand new car with all the driving assistance gear equipped. It was a 2007 or 8 bmw 328xi. I dont own it, its my brothers car but i have driven it many times. This is one of the nicest cars that ive driven thats equipped with a manual but it still wasnt perfect due to the worn 3rd gear synchro.
  4. This is just my driving history since some people doubt that i even practice. I have driven the said bmw, a few old hondas with varying transmissions/modifications and a shitty dodge neon, all manuals (also an assortment of regular passenger autos, 2 gmc trucks one somewhat new one older, dirt bikes and a few times a long bed dodge cummins. Im really not new to this). Im in the country side of my state. There's lots of car enthusiast here so i have experienced many different vehicles and i do haul alfalfa and grass bales here and there on a trailer although i will admit im only OK at parking with a trailer.
  5. Yall are assuming way too much and these arent small assumptions. I dont want to have to turn this small post into a damn movie script just because some of you have trouble reading or misinformed on driving manual cars. This is r/stickshift for christ sake. You should know about this.

TLDR;

DONT TAKE YOUR DRIVERS TEST IN A MANUAL CAR IN THE U.S. EVEN IF ITS THE ONLY VEHICLE YOU CAN USE. There's a high chance you get hit with many points due to poor/uninformed examiners and fail. P.s. the requirements for that job position in my state is barely anything, just job loyalty. Sad.

EDIT

Crazy news??;

Apparently the first dmv and the dmv i got rescheduled to are both fucked up. Found out from some locals online talking about their experiences there in the last few months. They both have had many tests fail BACK TO BACK and allowing some people to only pass on their 3rd try and even straight up lying about test drivers committing multiple traffic violations to fail them as well as inappropriate/unprofessional conversations. Now im no lawyer but something there has to be illegal or somebody needs to get fired. sadly i think nothing can be done about that so wish me luck, im going to need it 😭

I took my road test in my manual Camaro and it went fine. The grader was a bit scared of performance vehicles and never rode in a manual but I think she enjoyed it though she was scared 😂

Unnecessary and I get what she is saying
