I remember the first time I saw a promo of Steven Universe on CN. I thought to myself "Damn, this looks like the stupidest thing ever aired". I didn't think much of it until a friend of mine recommended it to me. So naturally, I decided to watch a few episodes to give it a shot. The first several were incredibly corny and cheesy, but they were somehow oddly engaging for me.
Looking back on that now; I'm so incredibly glad that I didn't let the corniness get in the way of my perception of the show. It's progressed from Steven thinking his powers are activated by Ice cream in episode 1, to Steven fighting his inner demons and accepting the mistakes Rose made, in episode 108. This show is so incredibly dynamic; it can switch from comedy to something deeper in almost an instant.
I'm completely in love with the progression, the character development is different from anything I've ever seen in a "kids" show.
