I have been dating my wife for 5 years, been in her kids lives for 4 and living with them for 2. Fine, maybe its not long but still.
My eldest step daughter is 13 and she thinks the sun shines out of her dad's arse! He got her one small xmas present because he got himself an XBox One, he never got her a 13th bday present. He isn't around, spends all his spare time with his new GF (he has keys to our house and is welcome any time... me and him get on very well). I am not saying he is a bad father by any means but he is selfish, it's why my wife left him. The other kids see this and have accepted it's who he is (they're 7, 10 and 12). The two boys, 10 and 12, have totally accepted that he cares more about the girls than them as he takes the girls places and leaves the boys home.
Oh, he also never gets them haircuts when he has his cut every week and we always agreed he would take them. He also didnt visit the eldest, the 13 year old girl, in hospital when she was recently sent to the ER from school (shes ok!)
When they visit him for weekends he never cooks, never cleans, plays video games all day or just leaves to see his friends and has their uncle babysit.
I am not trying to buy their love but I spoil these kids with stuff, time, attention and so on. I do my best to he a good father. I also pay for her brand new iPhone which is every teenaged girls best friend!
Yet every time something doesn't go my daughters way she wants to "live with Daddy". Its something that cannot legally happen and her mother would never allow it due to his selfish and care free attitude.
I had hoped by now she'd be old enough to see his flaws and of course still love him but understand why he isn't around and why their mother is no longer with him.
He is a man who, in her eyes, can do no wrong. I hate it...
