Song of Susannah
Post Body

Like Roland's quest for the tower, my quest to read all of Stephen Kings books took one more step further today with my completion of Song of Susannah. I grew up with King's presence in my life, but it was mainly through movies and TV. Although there were a couple of his books floating around my house, I never took the leap into reading any of his work until I was 14 and came across 'The Two Dead Girls' at my local Wally World. I was soon firmly caught up in the world of The Green Mile, and when I had finished the last of the six parts, I wanted more. I picked up the TV miniseries tie-in of The Shining soon after, but I never could get into it and it sat there on my shelf never to be read. The written works of King went back to the backburner for me until round about 2009. In the meantime I still watched everything based on King that came along, and even though I was an avid reader, I just for some reason kept putting King off. 2009 came around and I fell into a job that was perfect for a reader. In fact we had a locker full of paperbacks of various genres at our disposal, as well as a bookstore just upstairs. I was in that store one morning when I came across a newly released stand-alone edition of The Mist. The movie had just come out in theaters and I thought that I might as well read the story before I saw it. Thus was the real beginning for me. I read that book, and then a beaten up copy of Just After Sunset from our locker library. Not long after I got a Kindle 2 and my quest really took wing. Since then, I have read anywhere from four to eight King books a year. I read his short fiction collections first, then moved onto the novels in chronological order of release. I cheated a little and read six of the Dark Tower books out of order, but now I am back on track. Today I start number seven and it will be nice to finish Roland's story, but I still have nineteen books and whatever else the man releases in the meantime to go. Let's just hope the world doesn't end first. Thanks Mr. King for all of your great stories.
