And how did it impact you? How old were you when you read it? How were you introduced to his work?
The first book I read by King was Rose Madder. I must have been around 12 when I picked it up for the first time- it was in my mom's library and I had always been intrigued by the cover. One day I just picked it up and started reading.
I have to say I didn't understand it entirely at first (mainly the whole alternate universe and some of the details from Rosie's life, like the situation with Wendy) but other than that I loved it. I rooted for Rosie pretty hard, and I really liked the whole fantasy aspect of the novel, especially in contrast with the powerful human emotion of the story. I've read and re-read it over the years and to date I think Rose is one of the best female characters King has ever written (after Dolores of course!).
