I've done a deep dive and spent the past 10 whole minutes thinking about this, so hear me out.
Obviously Mitch is playing scared. He does not want to take risk, he doesn't use his mobility, and he does not want to take a hit. But, what if Mitch is playing scared because of OUR defense? Specifically, in training camp and practice - you have to assume hes being sacked 37 times an hour. With all that PTSD from Tj and Cam and gang coming at him all summer, he is now terrified of any defense.
Fans are currently wondering what Kenny or Mason could do in this offense and believe they would play better. And hey they probably would, because they didn't get 1st team reps and therefore didn't have to play against our spooky defense. So, this means no PTSD = no fear = no playing like Mitch the Bitch.
