Intro Stats was /chefkiss. Realizing that I love stats allowed me to finally, after months of having hundreds of tabs open, choose a major and eventual master's path. I'm an old (old, old) student whose last math class (Calc I) was quite literally more than half my lifetime ago. This may be a better question for one of the math subs but thought I'd start here.
The current class is Math Stat and, while I'm able to wrap my head around the concepts and map them back to the intro concepts, I'm finding it a LOT harder simply because the math terminology and concepts aren't fresh. The obvious solution - at least to me - is to hammer my way through the math again. If I were just a student or had just a part time job, I wouldn't sweat the source but the reality is that I don't have the time (and let's be honest, after tuition and books, my checking account is ACHING) to false start on a bunch of resources. As it is, I have a full class load, a job that requires OT, and a second job, so my life is currently an additional study in efficiency.
Are there any precalc / calc resources you'd recommend that are couched in the more formal language? Khan Academy is great, and free, and I know I can knock that out, but I don't want to get halfway into it and find that it's explaining the concepts w/o enough of the formal terminology to get it internalized. Picking up an e-text through Pearson or similar so I can work through the book and exercises also an option - when I grabbed my Calc I book I realized pretty quickly that I need to go back a bit further. :( I don't mind spending $ on the right thing to get it done - I just need to get this gap addressed so I can focus on nailing the concepts down vs. just figuring it out.
Thanks!
