EDIT OF MY EDIT LOL: After doing some further research, based off of what I found, the Palpatine theory is not actually fully dead. As it was never fully confirmed in the book if it was Exegol Palpatine was sensing, just that it was some dark presence.
EDIT: My theory of Palpatine and Baylan being connected with this calling was possibly wrong. Just wanted to edit this so anyone reading knows that this theory may have been off, and save you some time! Regardless, I can't wait to see what it is, and Thrawns live action debut was amazing! Still would love to see what everyone thinks is calling Baylan, this has been a really interesting plot point for me.
Okay so, after typing all of this, this is an edit I want to make:
I want to start off and say that this is all just speculation, however it is backed by possible evidence, and while I will discuss Baylan, I believe we have seen this call before, and Baylan is not the first to have it beckon him to the Unknown Regions or even further out, we actually have seen this exact thing happen before within canon, it involved emperor palpatine, and him sensing some strange and ominous call as well, and, I believe, after breaking down and researching the possibilities, these two calls are connected, and they all link back to Abeloth. Now before you click off and think this is some wild theory, I promise you I thought so too, until I did my own research, and started to see a connectionā¦ That just strangely makes sense. Now we will be pulling some from legends, but I promise that that he main pieces of evidence I have found do not rely on legends. Regardless of if it turns out to be Abeloth or not, I do believe Baylan is having the same beckoned Palpatine too, but after some time of searching for it, even palpatine realized it is extremely powerful, and should not be found.
So anyway... Here we go:
Hey! Just wanted to point out what I have seen as arguably the most interesting theory yet for what is calling out to Baylan. Some of this will be the original theory, mixed with more evidence I found. This is going to be super insanely long so I apologize in advance lol, but if you have a few minutes, I found this to be crazy interesting. And even if it doesnāt turn out to be the case, this story and what we know of is interesting (even if it is 95% legends currently). Take the theory with a grain of salt ofc, cause it would be extremely ballsy for them to do, but anyway:
In a scene where Baylan and his apprentice are searching the dead bandits Sabine took out:
Shin says āThey seem eager to leave this place maybe we should tooā
Baylan replies āPerhaps they flee a power greater than their own, something calls to me, canāt you hear it? Something stirs here, Canāt you see it?ā And he is suddenly cut off by Shin, as Bandits approach.
Now, taken at base level this could mean nothing or something else entirely, but there are a few interesting points that could redefine the show and upcoming movies (Like Filoniās) if they were to follow through with the direction it could to be headed.
Firstly, some background, there is what I would call a darkside god named āAbelothā, Iāll try to keep the background on Abelothās story super short. And it should be noted that currently her story is basically all non-canon right now, with a few possible subtle hints to a return of her, but more on those hints soon. She started off as a servant, who was a mortal being at the time, but lived and served 3 Gods: The Father, The Son, and The Daughter. If you have seen the clone wars then you probably know more about who those 3 are. The 3 gods eventually gave her the role of āThe Motherā, and she helped The Father oversee the other two (The Daughter and The Son). Basically, she started getting old, and wished to become immortal like the other 3. Some for her own desire to live, but also because she cared for The Daughter and The Son, like a mother, and wanted to continue to be there for them. To become immortal she had to do 2 things: Drink from the fountain of power, and bathe in the pool of knowledge. But the 3 forbid her, knowing that if she were too, there was a risk she could become corrupted by the 2 things. So what did she do? Both of those things they said not too of course lol. And what happened to her? Exactly what they said would of course lol. Ultimately, she became corrupted and vile (you can find the images of her online, she is nasty lol). So The Father, The Son, and The Daughter imprisoned her after a long fight. If I remember correctly, they were incapable of killing her, so thatās why they resorted to imprisonment, but this detail could be off, what is important to know is that they imprisoned her. And throughout Star Wars history, she has always beckoned and tried to manipulate force users into freeing her by calling out to them in the force. But throughout thousands of years every time the The Daughter and The son would stop her and anyone who tried to free her. Unfortunately, in the clone wars, the 3 mortis gods end up dying on this planet that Anakin, Obiwan, and Ahsoka were on at the time. Itās a long story of how they died and what happened, if you are interested the episodes are available online, I think one of the episodes was titled āSon of Mortisā or something like that. But what matters is that they died during the prequel trilogy/Clone Wars era. And with their death, pretty much no one was left to guard her. Now she isnāt directly canonized and is in legends currently, but I believe she attempted to call out to one of palpatineās advisors, who then relayed information to palpatine of something in the force beckoning him to the unknown regions. This was all in a canon Star Wars book titled āAftermath: Empires Endā. So, as we know, in canon something attempted to reach out to one of Palpatineās advisors, and therefore Palpatine himself during The Empire era. It would make sense that this would be her trying to manipulate him into freeing her, but as we know old Palps is a master at manipulation, so it did not take long in the book before he realized that he was dealing with a huge threat. He never figured out who it was, but just knew based off of what he sensed, that whatever it was, it was extremely powerful. Long story short (I could be wrong slightly in this section as it has been literal years since I read this book) he started to realize that this strange thing calling out to him was something far darker and more evil than even he could imagine. So he ceased exploration out of fear of what he would find, or probably even worse, end up calling back to the galaxy. The last known occurrence or mention of what I would consider a possible presence of Abeloth was Palpatine setting up observation posts at the outer edges of the unknown regions and some a little bit closer to the Star Wars galaxy, so if this entity ever traveled close to the galaxy, he would be made aware of it. But obviously at this point, if it was Abeloth, she would have been imprisoned still, and not able to travel, without help of escaping her imprisonment, however, Palpatine would have no way of directly knowing this anyway.
So, my theory of what probably followed for her during and after the events of the clone wars is this: sensing the 3 mortis gods deaths, and not being able to manipulate Palpatine, she knew that she would need to find a force user again and send mysterious calls out to them through the force, making them curious, and seek her out, where she would have them free her and then kill them. This literally is exactly what Baylan described happening to him, something has been calling/seeking him within the unknown regions or even beyond, he has answered the call, and is sensing something stirring near or on the planet (Which could be her of course, even though we know her to be trapped in blackholes, Canon could technically change that.), he basically mentions the possibility of it being extremely powerful is very high, and also with the help of Shinās narrative he even notices that Thrawn and the night sisters seem eager to leave and could be fleeing a power greater than their own. It seemingly makes sense. Now for the salt again lol, this is Disney, and this Darkside āGodā idea would be horrifying in live action, so I donāt know how they would pull it off unless they dumbed down how horrifying she looks. But this really does seem like Abeloth trying to tempt someone into freeing her. It would be a cool way to bring her back to canon. And I know she isnāt liked by everyone, but I always thought the concept of the galaxy being invaded by a rabid rampid sith at the tier of a āgodā is kinda badass. And it just strangely kinda makes sense, all the puzzle pieces are there so to say, they just havenāt been put into place to make the full picture yet.
Also, wanted to point out that the daughters life essence was transferred to Ahsoka, signaling that her character could still yet be something more. And would make her have a chance against Abeloth.
But this is all just me writing this in my bedroom right now, having fun theorizing about a new Star Wars show haha. So do not take all of this as guaranteed or fact. Because, who really knows what will happen! That's the fun of a new show! Would love to see what yāall think!!
