Hi /r/Startrek, I'm a D&D dungeon master who's preparing his first space-exploration themed "Spelljammer" campaign and one player in particular is a huge trekkie. I'd like to give this player in particular a very natural environment for them to assume the helm and captain their ship into the final frontier, meeting new worlds and races.
Problem is I haven't actually watched a single episode of Star Trek.
Being around them I know a substantive amount about all of the series, the different timelines, and the different feel that the movies, the original series, TNG, DS9 etc. all have, but I'm having a hard time pinpointing what makes each one of them stand out as their own.
What makes an episode of a Star Trek series feel like quintessential Star Trek, for you?
