So..I recently had a birthday - quarter of a century sure does go by fast- and if there's one thing people know about me it's that I love to read. I always have my nose in a book. Another thing people know about me is that I love scifi and Star Trek. That's probably why I got two copies of the book Redshirts It's by John Scalzi (author of Old Man's War, which is fantastic). Redshirts is somewhat of a spoof of Star Trek. It follows the adventures of an Ensign in the Universal Union. I can't say much about the book without ruining it, but suffice to say that I found it to be a lot of fun, and pretty hilarious at parts. I really liked it. Like I said, I got two copies. I'm obviously going to keep one copy. The other copy, I figured I'd offer to you awesome people here. If anyone wants it, I'll ship it out first chance I get. Free, of course. Anything better than a free book?
On another note, I just wanted to say that I had the pleasure of meeting some fellow Trek fans at a Space Fest a few weeks ago. They had been hired as volunteers to walk around the event area wearing costumes. I had just decided to wear my Starfleet dress that morning because I figured it was appropriate. I just have to say that quite a few times in my life, I've felt very out of place and awkward. Especially around people I don't know. I'm a gaming, comic obsessed, action figure collecting, shy girl.. I'm not exactly good at the whole "meeting new people" thing. So when I saw these guys all standing together, I wanted to go up and say hi but was a bit freaked. I attempted to make a break for it, but I got called back with calls of "Look! She must have beamed down from another ship!" Ended up hanging out for a bit with these guys I had never met. Here we are!. They made me feel right at home, which is really rare for me with strangers.
I guess I just wanted to tell you all this because.. moral of the story: Trek people are the best people. Which is why I'd be delighted to share this really fun book with one of you. Let me know if you would like a free book!
