It's been pretty nice hopping on mumble and seeing folks who want to practice, play, pass GSL links, discuss, etc. I owe it all to the first newbie night I went to last week. Since that class I've gone from silver to plat! Big thanks to the community.
Here's my latest replay to celebrate.
EDIT: Ok I'll contextualize this as briefly as I can. I started with the campaign when the game was released (Beat half of it on hard). Then started playing 2v2 vs AI with a friend and practice league matches. We went on to earn several 2v2/3v3 medium/hard coop achievements which really helped me master "basics" and get a good grasp of "macro." Then I went on to get gold on all the "challenges" to improve my "micro." With sufficient training under my belt I finished my practice league matches but stuck to 2v2s for quite some time. It really taught me the importance of scouting and how to counter cheeses/early pressure. All the time I was reading forums and watching pro-streamcasts. My buddy started going MIA (we had 100 team wins and felt like we were being tested to move into gold) so I thought it was time to venture into the 1v1 ladder.
I was placed in silver but was doing a great job of scouting and building the right counters (I had just discovered Day[9] at this point). I signed up for last week's newbie night and was promoted to gold that same day. After some great practice/learning sessions and discussions with redditors I went back to ladder and applied the lessons. I started 1v1 practicing with the people I met on mumble and over the weekend was promoted to platinum!
So while I had good bit of "training" prior to joining SC2_class, it was finding a place to practice and discuss builds/counters that helped me apply what I had learned and pointed out what I was missing. Now I would like to give back by sharing my knowledge/practice time. Just add me if you want someone to practice against or spectate your replays etc.
