TLDR: Y'all are awesome, supportive, and helpful. We made a new idea for a tournament work. Also sign-up if you wanna compete again! http://challonge.com/Platy2 (there are prizes down to 8th place, and it's double elim, $50 prize pool - most importantly players who have earned $8000 or more in sc2 tournament earnings may not compete).
Hey all, just wanted to thank everyone who helped me organize this tournament as well as reflect on the event and concept itself.
Firstly it was above and beyond anything I had hoped for at least for a first time tournament. We had around 15 concurrent viewers on a channel with 7 followers for nearly 7 hours, gathering over 170 channel views. More impressive than that in my opinion is that 47 people signed up, and the tournament began with 23 people. Amazing! That ratio is not amazing but just the fact that so many people showed up to play and took interest is amazing.
I have to thank everyone who made it possible which includes Nemesis who was an admin for the majority of the time and helped me cast for a few hours, Light (?), the editor of liquipedia who in real time updated the site with results, and whoever updated aligulac after the tournament ended (was that you Seigifried??) despite me expressing regret for not having that covered. Anyway, there were one or two hiccups but for the most part it ran smoothly and for that I thank the participants. Congrats to Bioice for winning the event, and for the underrated/still relatively unknown Nug for putting up a good fight in the finals :). Unfortunately, there are no vods because it was casted in a new channel and I never turned on the option to save vods automatically. Whoops.
Some changes... Firstly this thing took 7 hours and anything to shorten the tournament might welcomed in future events. Secondly it ran late, so I am moving it to 2 hours earlier and also making check-in 2 hours long. I understand that would be better for pretty much all regions. Also, it was not my best idea to run it on a new channel. In the future it will be run and casted on actual player's channels who will then have the responsibility rename and possibly save and upload their vods. Could be me, or anyone who aspires to cast. I'll always be there to cast, admin, or even play. Another change is I think seeding will be done by hand entirely based on aligulac to make my life easier and to be consistent but it was not a huge problem. The only person who complained ended up top 8 ;). Double elim format is here to stay too. Lastly, this tournament is going to offer OSC points starting after the 18th.
Concept-wise I feel for the players who can't compete and get a chance to get in on this... esports money.. but I am totally sticking with the idea, as I believe it's fair that players can compete in their own skill bracket and this is one way to do it. If you think about it, nearly every other major competitive sport or game has skill bracket based tournaments and this one just happens to be based on tournament earnings. I thought hard about how to create a skill restricted tournament that would be fair but in this game it's a difficult scenario because not everyone plays on NA, or ladders, or has OSC points, or enters other tournaments, so prize money is the best indicator of success at the semi-pro level. With aligulac's ability to track all tournament games, it's also nice to see a bunch more entries of players against players of similar skill.
Just a reminder as well that currently I am the only sponsor so if u want to support this idea and tournament in the future you can donate...not to create a pity party here but, any and all help appreciated. I have enough to keep it going a few months and have had jobs in the past (lol) but really I don't even have one of those at the moment and I am going through school as well trying to make the best the situation. You may donate here: https://www.paypal.me/platypro All related links are available here: https://challonge.com/Platy2 which is also the sign-up for the Platy-pro Weekly #2 (1/13/18 at 5:00 pm PST). Bowman will cast and stream next week's tournament on my personal channel (for now the platy_pro channel is gonna go inactive). Gotta have protoss perspective too right?
See ya next week, GLHF! Nistic
