For those of you who don't know what Theranos is, just google Elizabeth Holmes and you'll get all of the info you need.
But a TLDR; Theranos was a pharma company that was developing some ground breaking Jesus-tech that would change absolutely everything. They packed their Board with extremely well known people and from their claims, this Jesus tech was almost complete and coming 'Soon!' These revelations made them way too big of a point on the map out of nowhere and they were so far into it that there was really no way out.
They then started taking gigantic pre orders from everyone under the sun including entities with endless cash like the US Dept of Defense.
In reality, it was total bullshit that only a few people inside Theranos actually knew about due to how compartmentalized it was, and they needed the cash influx to actually try and develop the thing they claimed they could and claimed was already way further along than it was.
Bottom line, we need money from people buying this thing they think exists, to actually attempt to even get it to the point that they think it already is.
Sound familiar?
We all know CIG likes to blame any lack of development on it all going into SQ42 and its a big secret. We also know they like to keep selling jpegs of ships for the PU with little to no new content.
If SQ42 is so great and is in secret, its odd that it was weeks away from launch multiple times now. The last claim that it was coming was around 2016 if I remember right; 6 years ago, and then nothing. That doesn't even remotely make sense.
With Starfield coming this year, a direct single player competitor to SQ42, I don't see how they are going to have a chance. SQ42, which is their focus, is a single player game that is in all probability broken, buggy, uninspired bullshit. Starfield will be a complete game and if it puts out half of what it claims it will have more content than both the PU as well as the nonexistent SQ42. More importantly, it moves the goalposts for CIG as to what would even be acceptable to send to market. Couple that with 10 years of development, money and bullshit and you have something this is impossible to achieve anytime within the next few years. Maybe. If at all.
In the meantime, the interest and funding coming from jpegs will dwindle. They have to know this. They also have to know that when they begin to run out of new cash that allows them to attempt to develop shit that was supposed to have already existed 5 years ago (see: Theranos), that there is no way to dig themselves out of that hole.
My prediction?
I'm sure someone understands the legal terms in the TOS better than I do. But from what I've read, the PU is kind of a piggy back onto SQ42. You 'bought' SQ42 and anything else is a pledge/crowd funding for development. This means that they have to launch SQ42 but everything else is just a failed project. Which is exactly what I think they will do: funding dwindles, they use that to cry and complain and blame it on whoever, and then eventually launch a complete joke of a game in SQ42 which they know will kill the entire franchise overnight. At that point, whoever bails, bails with their golden parachute and the PU is basically barren because development has gone from basically nothing to it being abandoned.
But legally CIG is 'ok' because they launched 'something' they call a final product.
