Hello star citizens.

So I’m a very new player, probably 5-6 hours in. I’m a veteran of elite dangerous so flying around in space isn’t anything new. I have watched at least 3 hours of introductions and basics already.

Sorting out the controls was my first and biggest hurdle and they are still not 100% I am trying to use my x52 for flying which has been working alright for the most part. The control scheme is not very intuitive. The throttle situation is odd to say the least… why on earth can’t I just have a liner throttle?!?!

Also the icons are a bit confusing, I’m sure they will make more sense later.

But let me tell you about what happened today.

I took off… had all my gear ready to start my first mission. First quantum jump, plotted courses… going pretty well. I pull up to the star port and request docking…

There is no indicator of where to land. Tried another docking request. Still nothing.

I click what I thought was a “select” sort of command. As I noticed some white dots appear on the station.

They didn’t like that. Apparently “lock on” is a slightly more serious button than one might be lead to believe.

Missile incoming warning. I somehow dodge 5 or so missiles before I get out of range, somehow. Pressed my luck and when back still trying to land who knows where on this thing and I think I find my spot fly over and managed to hit the station hard enough to blow up my ship. Because you know… weird throttle.

Any ways I ended my play session with a impound and all my untested equipment blown up with my poor ship.

And I can’t wait to play again.

All I ever wanted to do in a video game is walk onto my space ship and take off.
