How do you guys put drizzle your whipped cream?

(This sounds like really horrible sexual innuendo. But seriously.)
It's been almost two months since I started working, and I've started treating my drinks like witchcraft already. So I'm trying to get this one detail right at this point.
I can't find a way to put any of the sauces nicely on top of the whipped cream. I tried an asterisk followed by a swirl, following the indents in the whipped cream, side-to-side...
Anyone have any tips?
