In a word, title.
In slightly more words, what's the legality / support of using client-side mods in Starbase? While this could technically mean hax0r stuff like giving players an X-Ray view of another's ship to tell what goods they're carrying or where their reactor is, I also mean mods for more... savory uses, for lack of a better term. I mean things like:
- alternate means of input to hook into specially-crafted systems for the disabled or significantly inclined enthusiasts
- enlarging UI elements to near-absurdity for the purposes of allowing the legally-blind-but-still-seeing to view things
- reading out text chat by way of system Text-To-Speak
- being able to use a YOLOL variable of either the player or a connected ship to interface with IRL RGB setups
- emitting the values of YOLOL variables on other displays - f.e. on a RasPi touchscreen or a Logitech G510s' LCD
- triggering rarely-used actions by way of voice command
- providing an import method for blueprints made in a third-party standalone ship editor
- providing rich context to Discord should it not be part of the main game by default
- rendering a pair of undergarments on every player for the socially intimidated
I'd understand if Frozenbyte wouldn't want to officially support mods like the above in Starbase, and I'd almost presume something is going to crop up eventually - I'm more wondering whether or not using something like the above would be grounds for punishment if the client being used is even a byte larger than expected or a singular bit off. I only offer up World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy 14 as examples of MMOs with approximately the same server-client relationship who in some manner allow modding to occur so long as it doesn't detract from other players' experience.
...on second thought, maybe not so much the last bullet above - I'm sure some players are rather touchy about their robot's aesthetics.
