Stalker shadow of chernobyl question

Hey guys, just started playing this game.
so im in a friendly zone (the mission in the car scrapyard). we killed the bandits and i got cash reward. but shortly after that, wehn i was exploring the scrapyard, the green radiation symbol came on and i started losing health and i die...even though the area was safe with no radiation when i first got there.. whats the reason for this?
