I think to symbolize losing the ability to see clearly or tell things apart. He knows exactly what he wants and how to get there. By leaving his glasses behind when re-entering the games, though, he’s choosing to soften his focus on the consequences of his actions… vs. seeing the horrors of everything in great detail as before.
