Barcode Scan In/Out

Hey Peeps, I have an inventory list of barcoded things that i rent out and would simply like to have a box be checked when the item is scanned so i can scan it in and out. Is there a way to have Google Sheets or Excel search a list of barcodes (Scanned from a barcode reader, basically works the same way an external keyboard would) and check a box in the same row?
