Splatoon 2 Live Concert (And Music Overall) > Splat 3's

Post Body

I know a number of people think Splatoon 3's music is better than Splatoon 2. As it stands right now, I disagree. There are some tracks that I'm not a big fan of, but by and large, I think Splatoon 2 has a more diverse and hard hitting catalog of work. You can definitely feel that live. Watching them back to back, I really came to further appreciate how great Splat 2's music was in-game but also live.

From the song selection, song order, crowd, and energy of the band, I found the Splat 2 live show - specifically Tokaigi 2019 - MUCH better than the Nintendo Live 2022 show. Check them out below.

The crowd was much more into the Splat 2 music. As soon as Inkoming came on, the crowd went wild. The change to Blitz it and then to Entropical brought even more energy and momentum. Those two words are really the driving ideas behind my love for that concert.

Even though the words are gibberish, there are some chants and choruses in Splat 2's music (Entropical, Nasty Majesty, Fly Octo Fly) that are easy to understand. The crowd knew them, followed along, and had a blast doing so.

The band was electric, and their solos were dynamic. The crowd went wild for them every time. Pearl and Marina had great chemistry and fun choreography. The chants, the megaphone for Fly Octo Fly, getting the crowd to sing with them - it was a phenomenal show.

I do wanna give Splat 3 some credit. Anarchy Rainbow belongs in the pantheon of great Splat music. Also, the band didn't play some of their best songs like Track 05 from C-Side and Paintscraper. Moreover, Splat 3 has yet release DLC to add to it's catalog (That's why I said "as it stands right now").

But even hearing some of the music live, it just didn't hit like Splat 2. I think all of the Splat 3 music is good, but I don't think it would sound as good live as Splat 2.

What do you think?
