In some places, I've read that a key point in degrading society (let's say social engineering) is surrounding ourselves with ugly architecture. Living in areas filled with horrible buildings has a very negative effect on our souls. I had never really considered this, but the other day I had an experience that made me believe it for sure. I had arranged to meet a friend to chat and take a walk, as I had been feeling down for a few days. We met in a place plagued by the typical dystopian apartment blocks that are so common in Europe, and after a while, I thought of going to the bourgeois area of the city, a beautiful place full of 19th-century mansions by the sea. While I was there, my mood multiplied by five; I immediately felt, while walking through that place, how beauty came to me like an antidote, something that the ugliness of the previous area prevented from flowing.
