Can vertebrae fuse on their own?

Post Body

A few years ago I was in a hit and run. It totaled my car and everyone told me to go to the ER because I had a terrible headache and ny neck hurt. Anyway, I was put in a brace for a few weeks. I was told I cracked a vertebrae but it didn't hurt all that much. Eventually I wad told they misdiagnosed me.

The last nurse I saw mentioned that I had a complete c3 and c4 fusion. She said it wad unrelated to the accident. They didn't seem concerned about it. For as long as I can remember I've had very limited movement on my neck. And I guess that's why lol. My dad always said that Degenerative Disc Disease runs in our family.

Anyway, I was wondering if it's possible for vertebrae to fuse on their own? Can it cause any long term damage/effects? I'm terrified of getting spinal surgery so I might just stay this way lol. Has anyone heard of this happening? I have tried googling and doing all sorts of searches and all I have found is fusion that happens after a surgery, nothing related to what I'm experiencing.

I've never had a surgery, and the only other incident I can think of that might have caused this was when I did a clean break in my collar bone when I was 12.
