[[Song of Creation]] is, on face value, a ridiculous card. In this thread, I want to consolidate serious "unfair" builds looking to exploit the card.
The first idea with legs is exploiting cards with effective 0 CMC to draw into additional 0CMC cards, holding UU up to win with [[Thassa's Oracle]]. I find 4 such cards in standard: [[Stonecoil Serpent]], [[Chamber Sentry]], [[Ugin's Conjurant]] and the virtual 0CMC [[Seasonal Ritual]] (which helps manafix for the Oracle). Historic has access to a few more: [[Burning-Tree Emissary]], [[Mox Amber]] and [[Ornithopter]].
Running 12 such 0CMC cards gives us roughly ~41% of replacing with another 0CMC card off a double draw. This is below self-replacement rate for a pure combo. With the full 16 0CMC standard cards, those odds are 55%. This implies we need some help to keep going (strategically keeping cards in hand, additional draws, re-draws).
Here is an example build:
4 Song of Creation
4 Chamber Sentry
4 Growth Spiral
4 Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath
4 Stonecoil Serpent
4 Rosethorn Acolyte
4 Merfolk Secretkeeper
3 Emry, Lurker of the Loch
2 Thassa's Oracle
1 Wand of Vertebrae
26 Lands
Testing this build runs into two classic "bad combo deck" problems: fizzling out (when we don't draw song of creation/when it's removed), not doing much against pure aggro (this isn't a huge problem in the current meta, but it's always a problem on Arena ladder due to overrepresentation) and not having a "B plan".
Adventure creatures and graveyard recursion shore up Song of Creation's maing "coldstart" drawback, where we draw a land on an empty hand on T5.
There are variations:
Adding Ugin's conjurant, [[ozolith]] and [[maximize altitude]] to beat the opponent as a B-plan
Adding in [[Ox of Agonas]] and [[underworld breach]] to loop a single serpent
Using Temur Clover or Temur Elementals as a base, and relying less on 0CMC unfair cards.
I found ideas based around [[glint-horn buccanneer]] to be weak, but could be convinced otherwise. Perhaps a more midrange (rather than combo) build using [[Cavalier of Flame]] as a finisher.
Overall, while the archetype has legs, but I haven't come up with a build that feels reliable enough to be competitive.
I would like to incite serious discussion on what other unfair Song of Creation builds spikes have tested.
