Basic premise: Poop out lots of little bodies in order to poke for damage until you amass enough creatures to convoke into Seraph of the Masses
Pros: It's cheap, and mono colored. You shouldn't often be hurting for mana, thus why I'm only running 23 lands. Also the deck has a few cards at the top of the curve to keep it relevant in the mid-game, like Brimaz, Wingmate, and Elspeth.
Cons: Anger of the Gods, drown in sorrow, and circle of flames hurts a lot. Board wipes in general suck. Also other aggro decks that drop small bodies quickly generally overpower these small bodies.
Card choices:
4x Soldiers is an easy pick. 1 white mana for a 2/1 is great, the little bit of lifegain and the protection from multicolored is such a huge bonus.
3x Herald- I had to break one of my playsets for the inclusion of a 3rd Brimaz, and this was it. The herald is great with 2 toughness, and the outlast ability is great for this deck, but very rarely do I find myself with 3 mana open to use it, and he becomes more relevant in the mid-game.
3x Seraph of the Masses fits well. I don't run the full four, as sometimes they sit dead in hand. But you can get him out as early as turn 4, and generally his size is quite relevant with the evasion, and can close a game out quickly, especially when accompanied by a spear and little soldiers.
3x Brimaz, King of Oreskos. I don't run the full 4 because he is legendary. But his ability to make a token every turn makes him great. He also survives Anger of the gods, this decks biggest weakness.
4x Wingmate Roc- the raid ability is very easy to pull off in this deck. Sacrificing 1 of many 1/1 soldiers into a disadvantageous block is well worth the extra 3/4 flyer that also survives Anger. The lifegain is crazy when you're swinging with 6-8 little tokens too. Often a huge game changer.
2x Elspeth. While she is a bit expensive, she can win games by herself, making her well worth the six mana. With the shrines and lots of weenies present, devoting into her isn't usually difficult either. Her -3 is very relevant to this deck as well, eliminating bigger problem creatures. The 1 is quite obvious.
4x Raise the Alarm. Auto include in any deck of this nature. It can be a great combat trick, and is a free spell when you're casting into a convoke spell.
4x Launch the Fleet might seem a little much, but I like having multiples lead into each other. Even attacking into disadvantageous situations makes it worth it, as the number of bodies dropping on the board gets overwhelming quickly.
4x Triplicate Spirits it's always great to poop out a bunch of 1/1 or 2/2 flyers. I can often get these guys on turn 4 and they are a great buildup into a seraph, where I have a mass of evasive creatures dropping on my side.
2x Devouring Light this deck lacks removal in the mainboard, and these guys are great for everything but stormbreath. The convoke makes them free in most cases.
2x Brave the Sands The vigilance is perfect for convoke. Swing vigilantly with all your little dudes, then tap them down to make more. The ability to block an extra creature helps shut down agro by chumpblocking 2 guys with one little soldier. The blocking abilities stack too, blocking 3 creatures per guy makes it quite easy to shut aggro strategies down.
2x Nyx, Shrine to Nykthos Devotion comes easily to this deck, and it's mono colored. This land is great, and with only two, I don't often run into problems of needing colored mana instead of this.
This deck has been doing great at FNM's, but I haven't seen any similar lists. What do the spikes think? How can I bring this to a competitive level?
