I know I've been posting a lot about RW Burn lately, and I've been avoiding putting the actual list up. But I went 4-0 the other day with this list and I'd like to share it now that I think I've got it worked out. Mind you, I'm not basing this on winning that night, but more that it's behaving a lot more consistently than it did for the few months I've been using it prior. Mine is a bit different than other RW lists, and I will follow up with little blurbs about my card choices.
CREATURES:
Young Pyromancer x 4 Some run him, some don't. I always will. He is a powerhouse that if isn't responded to right away nets you HUGE advantages.
Satyr Firedancer x3 Most of my games were decided by me wasting crucial burn spells on creatures rather than a player's face. This guy lets me do both, and he makes Searing Blood RIDICULOUS, but only a three-of as this deck needs to be relatively creature-light
Chandra's Phoenix x3 Only 3 of these in because I feel turn 3 is often awkward for me. There are sometimes I want to cast a phoenix and there are other times I want to Firedancer or Pyro shock, or use yet another burn spell. when everything costs 2 or 4 mana, this three drop gets weird. So I just run 3 of her.
Eidolon of the Great Revel x1 I took this idea from Sperling, and he can have it right back. I really don't like this card in this deck at all. There are simply too many big spells being casted right now where he is so crucial, and he backfires on almost EVERY SPELL I CAST. Definitely going to be on the chopping block if good alternatives come around.
THE BURN
Shock x 4 cuz Shocks
Lightning Strike x 4 Does anybody else feel like Strike is really weak? I always considering boarding it out g2 and I'm always afraid to
Skullcrack x 4 You need 4 of these guys somewhere in your 75. Lifegain is your biggest enemy, and even a little lifegain can set you back a lot.
Searing Blood x 4 Probably doesn't need to be a 4-of. It's often a dead card, and creatures are usually bigger than the 2 damage can facilitate.
Boros Charm x4 You will almost always use this for 4 damage, but occasionally you will also want to protect your firedancers or elemental tokens as well. None of the creatures in the deck are big enough to make double-strike a viable option. No creature in the deck will deal more than 4 damage with double strike anyway, and it only helps to use if you're trying to block a creature that's too big for your 2/1's and 2/2's.
Magma Jet x2 Sperling took them out, I say compromise and keep a couple in. Burn often runs into problems with dead hands. Our decks tend to use up our hand a lot faster, and so the mid to late game gets real scary for us. These little guys can help out a lot. the damage may be underrated, but I also like the fact that I don't have to waste a lightning strike or stoke the flames on a 2/2 if necessary. These guys are absolutely necessary after most game 1's anyway, when you want to make sure you draw your sideboard cards.
Warleader's Helix x3 Only a three of, because they are more expensive than the other cards in the deck and often sit dead for awhile. But the extra life is crucial when you're trying to race someone to the death. VERY important for the mirror and against any small aggro deck.
Stoke the Flames x1 Included because of the synergy with pyromaster and it's ability to only cost 3 with ANY creature on board. This deck hates Blood Baron a lot, and also influenced the decision of throwing in a Stoke.
LAND:
Sacred Foundry x3
Temple of Triumph x3
Battlefield Forge x3
Boros Guildgate x2 Don't pick on me, I just don't have a 4th of ANY of the R/W duals T_T As soon as I get a 4th forge and triumph I will replace the gates
Mountain x12
Mutavault x 0 Why?!? because you need your colored mana. You really do. Especially for any of the white spells, a LOT that come up in the sideboard especially. Mutavault holds back a lot, and in a deck that's land-light to begin with, losing a mutavault can be catastrophic. I know he can do damage on his own, but it's very situational. I feel Mutavault holds the deck back from doing what it's supposed to do.
Sideboard:
Sideboard for my local meta, but any tips would be greatly appreciated as sideboarding is my WEAKEST GAME
Chained to the Rocks x3 Some people run them MB, some don't. I like keeping them in the side as Firedancer is a good out for creature removal and can sit dead a lot versus control decks, which is a deck you really have to race if you want to close.
Reprisal x1 DD, Polukranos, I'm looking at you
Wear/tear x1 Whip of Erebos, Courser, Nyx-Fleece Ram, and Bow of Nylea, I'm looking at you
Peak Eruption x2 Rabblered is popular, and red aggro will always be a thing. R/G Monsters and Jund don't like this card either.
Boros Reckoner x3 Because sometimes I don't want to play a burn deck in some matches. Sometimes I need asses on the ground to get the job done against big nasty creatures or small little ones.
Mizzium Mortars x1 Again, really for the Blood Baron
Stoke the Flames x2 Sometimes I need my big burn spells to finish the race out against some decks, and they also come in for Blood Baron
Anger of the Gods x2 This card is so great. Sure, a lot of creatures got 4 or more toughness now, but against certain decks this card wrecks face. Aggro decks beware. The synergy with skullcrack also helps get around Brave the Elements.
Alright, that's the list! I have a feeling my deck is still slightly too creature-heavy, but it's been working well so far. I KNOW I need to get my lands right. Those guildgates make me cry. Unfortunately, budget is a HUGE deal for me.
So what do the spikes think? Too many creatures? Not enough mutavaults? Some key cards I should be running or some dumb cards I shouldn't? All criticism welcomed! Help me SPIKE!
I could really use help sideboarding. What goes in and out versus mono Black? Mono blue? UW control? I am so bad at that for the most part.
